Parent/Guardian Responsibilities

Wangaratta Little Athletics is powered by parents!

Athletics is one of the few kids sports that allows parents/guardians to be right amongst the action! Our Centre simply can’t function without the assistance of volunteers to run our programs events safely and successfully.

Our committee members are all parents volunteering their time to Wangaratta Little Athletics and to your little athletes.

By registering your child with Little Athletics, there is an expectation that you will volunteer and assist throughout the season. Parents and guardians will be expected to help with duties such as set up, canteen, measuring, recording, retrieving equipment, marshalling and generally assisting at events. No experience is needed and support is always available.

Parents and guardians are also expected to remain at the venue while their child is participating. When everyone lends a hand, events run more efficiently, athletes spend less time waiting and our kids get the best possible Little Athletics experience.

Parent/Guardian Code of Behaviour:

  • Encourage your child to participate and enjoy Little Athletics, but never force them to take part if they do not want to.
  • Focus on effort, improvement and personal bests rather than winning or placings.
  • Teach children that giving their best effort is more important than the final result.
  • Encourage all athletes to compete fairly and follow the rules.
  • Never ridicule, embarrass or yell at a child for making a mistake or not performing as expected.
  • Remember that children participate in Little Athletics for their enjoyment, not for the enjoyment or expectations of adults.
  • Respect the decisions of officials. If you have a concern, raise it calmly through the appropriate channels rather than questioning an official publicly.
  • Recognise and respect the contribution of volunteer officials, coaches and committee members who give their time to support all athletes.
  • Always demonstrate appropriate behaviour. Harassment, abuse, intimidation or inappropriate conduct towards athletes, parents, coaches or officials will not be tolerated.
  • Smoking, vaping or being intoxicated within the competition area is not permitted.
  • Avoid offensive or inappropriate language at all times.
  • Be a positive role model and help create a safe, respectful and welcoming environment for every athlete and family.

Thank you for helping us create a positive, respectful and enjoyable Little Athletics experience.
